In today’s society there is not enough information taught about safety while driving. There are many driving courses available, but they are not taken by everyone. The class should be a free, mandatory class so that every teen can see how important safety while driving really is. The most dangerous thing a teen can do is be behind the wheel of an automobile.
In the drivers education course teenagers are given a lot of valuable information. The class time and road time is great for learning. One thing that there isn’t enough of is video footage. Teens should not be sheltered from the gore of the videos; they should have to see how dangerous it can be to be behind the wheel.
One of the first things teenagers do when they get into a car is pull out their cell phone and begin to text. They say that they understand the dangers of texting while driving, but in all honesty they don’t. If teenagers did understand the severity of the acts they are performing they wouldn’t do it. Teenagers think that they are invincible and that nothing can harm them. They don’t realize that driving is the most dangerous thing they do everyday. Every time a teenager gets behind the wheel, they have a great chance of not making it to their final destination. Not only are teens putting their own lives at risk, but they are putting those drivers around them and any passengers that might be in the car with them at risk.
Any parent of a teen driver knows what it feels like to watch their son or daughter pull out of the driveway with their children in the car. When there are others lives at risk more precautions should be taken. Teen drivers shouldn’t be allowed to have younger children in their car for the first year of driving. Children are too much of a distraction for a new teen driver. Other distractions would include: listening to an iPods, and applying make-up.
I hope that this has impacted those who are reading this. It would be a shame to lose innocent lives to such careless mistakes. Driving is not a privilege, it is a responsibility. Driving is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly.
